Lucille Fernandes-Stangl was born in South Africa to immigrant parents and is an oil painter, occasionally dabbling into the realm of mixed media. She uses her creative practice to process her own interrupted life experience and to interrupt the experience of the viewer, raising questions around pertinent social issues such as addiction and recovery. Exploring portraiture in an attempt to dismantle, reinterpret and challenge the genre, Lucille showcased her first solo show in 2022 at
Keyes Art Mile in Rosebank, Johannesburg (Anonymous). Lucille studied briefly at Wits University, dropped out and at the tender age of 43 is emerging from a life interrupted.
