Born in Mbabane, Eswatini, in 1999, Lindelwa Matsebula discovered his passion for art at an early age, drawing as a way of understanding the world from the age of three. His talent was nurtured under the mentorship of acclaimed Swazi artist Lucky Mlotsa, who provided both technical grounding and creative encouragement. Although he initially pursued civil engineering, Matsebula ultimately chose to follow his true calling, leaving his studies to dedicate himself fully to art—a decision that led him to Johannesburg’s vibrant art scene and further mentorship under renowned artist Mbongeni Fakudze.
Since then, Matsebula’s career has reflected both versatility and dedication. He has worked closely with mentors on major projects, including assisting Fakudze with his solo exhibition at Keyes Art Mile in Rosebank and collaborating with Mlotsa on a large-scale commission for Eswatini Royal Insurance. Beyond his own practice, he has used art as a tool for social impact, volunteering at the Nhlakanipho Foundation to teach creative skills to over 150 children. His work has been recognized with the Outstanding Fine Artist regional award in Eswatini, media features in leading national newspapers, and exhibitions across Eswatini and South Africa, including Unmasking the Tomorrow at Contra Fair in Johannesburg and several Meta Foundation events.
For Matsebula, art is not only about aesthetics but also about transformation and reflection. His practice explores the intersection of philosophy, metaphysics, and spirituality, seeking to awaken viewers to their divine essence and higher potential. Through his canvases, he aims to inspire, challenge, and connect, leaving lasting impressions that transcend the gallery space. Standing at the threshold of a promising career, Lindelwa Matsebula is committed to shaping a legacy that bridges beauty, insight, and human awakening.
