Dumisani “Devolutionery” Jere is a contemporary multidisciplinary artist and former associated Drawing & Narrative 1st year lecturer. He was born in Soweto, Johannesburg South Africa, in 1991. He studied at the Open Window Institute independent art and digital sciences school based in Pretoria, where he obtained a BA
Degree in Visual Communication Design in 2017. His work draws inspiration from
Afrocentric mythology concerning global postmodern sociologies. Jere experiments and explores these themes in various audio and visual, illustration, motion design, painting, and digital mixed mediums. As
As a current part-time Interactive Designer at the African Fashion Research Institute, my background is that of a contemporary interdisciplinary artist and former lecturer, born in Soweto, Johannesburg, in 1991. I hold a BA in Visual Communication Design from the Open Window Institute. Combined with my practical experience in the workplace, I have been featured at the SA Theatre State and recognised by numerous awards.
I am a global top 10 finalist in the Visual Art Awards for my short film “Syncopation,” a Fak’ugesi Festival Top 5 finalist in the digital music 2023/2024 catagory, and the winner of the 2025 poster open call. He is an ACT Nyoloha t-shirt competition winner and was assistant curator for the group exhibition “Choice Assorted.” Jere is currently based at August House and represented by Lizamore and Associates, Latitudes Online, Thabo Mbeki Foundation represented by Totem Media and NO END Contemporary. Aligns directly with the core responsibilities from Railways Cafe.
